AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION (A.S.A.) BASIC KEELBOAT CERTIFICATION 101
This fun introductory course for beginners is a pre-requisite for all students wishing to take the Coastal Cruising 103 and Bareboat Charter 104.The Basic Keelboat 101 certification will have you sailing safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat in moderate wind and sea conditions. See Video*. This twelve hour course is taught in 3 separate 4 hour classes aboard our 26 foot sail training vessel “On Belay” departing daily from Paradise Village.

Basic Keelboat 101 course includes:
• 12 hours of sailing instruction with A.S.A. instructor Captain Robert Kupps

• The “Sailing Fundamental Book” by America’s Cup tactician Gary Jobson

• Skills: attaching sails, raising sails, tacking, jibing, navigation rules, docking and more.

• A.S.A. Official International Logbook

• Certification test and Seal

• Beverages and snacks

THREE SESSION 101 BASIC KEELBOAT CERTIFICATION COURSES
For those not having enough time to complete the entire course while visiting Vallarta,we have broken the 12 hour course into three classes that may be taken over several visits. Students are eligible for certification once they have completed three four hour classes. To accomodate your vacation’s agenda, flexible scheduling is available. See Video*.

A.S.A. BASIC COASTAL CRUISING CERTIFICATION 103
This course goes hand in hand with Course 101 and most students with little or no priorsailing experience are able to complete both within one week. It is also a pre-requisite totaking the Bareboat Certification 104. This course includes deck work, simple coastal navigation and chart work, further rules of the sea, basic maintenance, first aid, provisioning, helming, radio operation and simple passage planning.

A.S.A. BAREBOAT CHARTERING CERTIFICATION 104
The Basic Keelboat and Coastal Cruising courses are prerequisites for this course. This course includes preparation for sea, further yacht handling under sail and power, passage-making and handling of a large yacht under adverse weather conditions, safety, meteorology, yacht maintenance, supervision of a yacht’s main systems and crew management. All provisioning for both students & crew will be purchased and paid for by students, this is an integral part of Bareboat Chartering. This course is 2 nights 3 days (minimum 48 hrs.) live a board.
